Our Coaches

Missy Hurtado

 

A veteran member of the UA Pride of Arizona Color Guard staff, Missy will co-coach alongside Bill Patterson. Missy marched with the Pride for four years, two of them as captain. As captain of Vericitas Winter Guard, the group won WGAZ Championships in 2012 and 2013, and placed as a 2013 WGI Western Championships finalist. Missy toured the country with The Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corp, performing in Indianapolis at DCI Finals. Under Missy’s instruction, the Rio Rico High School guard placed in two WGAZ Regional A Championships, and earned countless Outstanding Auxiliary captions during their marching season. Missy is currently pursuing a degree in Nursing at The University of Arizona.

 

Bill Patterson

 

In addition to coaching the POA Colorguard and Vericitas winter line, Bill Patterson has choreographed for several high school band programs throughout Tucson. He earned his BM in Music Education at the University of Arizona, as well as a BA in Piano with a Dance minor. Bill is currently pursuing his MM in Piano Performance/Dance Accompanying following a position teaching instrumental music at Orange Grove Middle School.

 

During his undergraduate work, Bill marched saxophone and tuba. He served two years as drum major with the Pride of Arizona and was a member of Vericitas. Bill performed on saxophone in the UA Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Jazz Band, Catalina Saxophone Quartet, and as soloist for the UA President's Luncheon (2011). He appeared on piano with the UA School of Dance and School of Theatre, as soloist for the IGMID Conference (2010), and with the Artifact Dance Project where he toured several summers throughout China.

 

Bill’s background in musical theater includes music director/pianist for Arizona Onstage Productions “Forever Plaid” and “Bat Boy: The Musical,” as well as “Rocky Horror” at the Performing Arts Center in Wenatchee, WA.  He played keyboard and woodwinds for Arizona Repertory Theater and was most recently seen dancing as ‘Slim’ in their production of Oklahoma!
